What can lip filler change?
Lip filler adds volume or definition to the lips using an injectable gel, commonly hyaluronic acid (HA). It may help with naturally thin lips, volume loss or selected differences in shape. The result is temporary and depends on your anatomy, the product and the treatment plan.
Injectable HA is different from the HA in lip balm or skincare. Our guide to hyaluronic acid and fillers explains the distinction.
Filler cannot make lips smaller or correct every cause of asymmetry or downturned corners. Persistent dryness, cracking or inflammation needs assessment first; filler is not a substitute for treating a lip condition.
How do you choose a lip shape?
Start with the change you want: a little more fullness, a clearer Cupid’s bow, better balance or a more noticeable outline. Photos can help explain a preference, but your existing lip tissue and movement limit what is achievable.
Names such as Cherry Lips, M-shaped lips and Western-style lips describe aesthetic preferences. They do not prescribe a fixed upper-to-lower lip ratio, injection technique or amount of filler. A subtle result and a fuller result both need an individual assessment.
Which filler products are suitable for lips?
The exact model matters more than the brand name. For example, Restylane Kysse and JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC have U.S. indications for lip augmentation in adults over 21. Those labels do not establish Thai authorization or the suitability of a similarly named product sold in Thailand.
Before treatment, confirm the full product name, Thai authorization and approved use, volume per syringe, lot number and expiry date. Ask why that product suits your lips. Softness alone does not guarantee a natural result or prevent lumps. See our comparison of filler brands and models for the broader differences.
How many cc of lip filler do you need?
There is no standard amount for everyone. One cc equals one mL, but buying a syringe does not mean that all of it needs to be injected. The plan depends on your starting volume, previous filler, desired change and the product’s instructions.
Do not choose a dose from a style name or package. If swelling makes the result difficult to judge, wait for the doctor’s review before deciding whether more is needed.
What happens at a lip filler appointment?
The doctor assesses your lips at rest and in motion, checks your medical and treatment history, and discusses the expected change, risks and alternatives. The area is cleaned and pain relief is planned before injection.
Numbing can reduce discomfort, but stinging, pressure or tenderness can still occur. The choice between a needle and a blunt cannula depends on the product and treatment plan; neither removes all risk. Arrange a review and a direct route to urgent help before leaving.
Who should postpone treatment or take extra care?
- Active cold sores, infection or inflammation: postpone injection until the area has been assessed and the problem treated or controlled. Mention previous cold sores, as lip injections can trigger a recurrence.
- Allergies: disclose previous severe reactions and allergies to filler ingredients or local anesthetics such as lidocaine.
- Medicines and bleeding problems: tell the doctor about prescriptions, non-prescription medicines and supplements. Some increase bruising or bleeding. Do not stop a prescribed medicine yourself to prepare for filler.
- Previous filler or surgery: explain what was done, especially if the material is unknown or you have persistent lumps.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding: postpone elective lip filler because safety has not been established.
How long does swelling last, and what aftercare helps?
Swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness are common early reactions. They often improve over days to around two weeks, although some last longer. Plan around possible visible swelling rather than a promise of no downtime, and avoid judging the final shape immediately.
- Follow the doctor’s product-specific instructions. A gentle cold compress may help ordinary swelling.
- Avoid pressing or massaging the lips to fix a lump yourself.
- Limit strenuous exercise, alcohol and excessive heat initially. Some product instructions specify at least the first 24 hours; restrictions may need to continue while swelling or redness remains.
- Ask when to resume lipstick, other lip products and activities that put pressure on the lips. Choose comfortable foods and drinks while the area is tender.
Contact the doctor promptly for increasing redness, warmth, pain, discharge, fever or swelling that worsens or returns. Do not wait for the planned review if symptoms are getting worse.
Which symptoms need emergency care?
Filler can cause infection, persistent lumps, delayed inflammation or allergic reactions. Rarely, it can block a blood vessel and cause tissue damage; facial filler complications can also cause blindness or stroke.
- Severe or unusual pain, pale skin, or dusky or mottled discoloration: seek immediate medical assessment. If the injector cannot assess you immediately, go to an emergency department.
- Blurred, double or lost vision, eye pain, facial drooping, weakness or difficulty speaking: seek emergency hospital care immediately and explain that you have had filler. Do not delay transfer while waiting for clinic treatment.
- Breathing difficulty, tongue or throat swelling, faintness or collapse: get emergency help immediately.
How long does lip filler last?
Duration varies by product and individual response. Some people retain visible improvement for around a year with Restylane Kysse or JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC. The U.S. evidence includes treatment with optional early touch-ups, so this is not a promise for one injection or every lip filler.
You do not need an automatic refill every few months. Review the remaining volume and your goals first. Less visible fullness does not necessarily mean that all the filler has disappeared.
Can lip filler be dissolved if you dislike the result?
A doctor may use hyaluronidase to reduce HA filler, but the response varies and further treatment may be needed. Dissolving has its own risks, including allergic reactions, and cannot guarantee your original appearance or reverse every complication. It does not remove non-HA materials in the same way.
A lump needs assessment before correction because swelling, product placement, inflammation and infection need different approaches. Read about dissolving filler and its limitations before treating reversibility as a reason to proceed.
How much does lip filler cost in Thailand?
Ask Smooth Clinic for a current quote in Thai baht based on the exact product and proposed amount. Check whether the price is per cc or per syringe and whether assessment, treatment, review visits and any touch-up are included. Ask how additional or corrective treatment is charged.
Choose a licensed clinic and doctor, and make sure you understand the consent and aftercare information. Confirm how to contact the treating team and where to seek urgent care. A lower package price is not a reason to inject more than your lips need.
