Sculptra can gradually improve selected facial wrinkles by stimulating collagen. Here is what to know about results, risks, follow-up and treatment costs in Thailand.

Insight Guide About Sculptra: Benefits, Results, Risks and Cost in Thailand

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which stimulates collagen production. It can gradually improve selected facial folds and wrinkles. It is not ready-made collagen, and the fullness immediately after injection is not the final result.

For treatment in Thailand, ask the doctor to confirm the exact product, its current Thai authorization and the proposed treatment area. U.S. approval does not establish Thai authorization or make every injection site appropriate.

How is Sculptra different from HA filler?

Many hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers add volume directly. Sculptra works through a gradual tissue response, so assessment and follow-up are important before deciding whether to add more. Neither material is best for everyone, and Sculptra does not necessarily last longer than every HA product.

A key difference is correction: hyaluronidase does not dissolve Sculptra’s PLLA particles as it does HA filler. Biodegradable does not mean instantly reversible. Managing an unwanted result or complication may be difficult and require treatment. Read about the limits of filler dissolving before choosing an injectable.

What can Sculptra treat, and where should it not be used?

The U.S. label includes correction of nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles, including fine lines and wrinkles in the cheeks, in people with a normal immune response. This is evidence for specific uses, not a promise of a facelift, a sharper jawline, smaller pores or prevention of aging.

The label says not to inject the red part of the lips. Use around the eyes has not been studied under this label, and a higher risk of small bumps and nodules has been reported there. Do not assume it is suitable for the temples, nose, chin or every hollow area. The doctor should explain the evidence, local labeling and risks for the proposed site.

If your main concern is substantial loose skin, dryness, pigmentation or pore appearance, first establish what is causing it. More injectable volume may not address that problem.

Who may be suitable, and who needs to postpone treatment?

Sculptra may suit someone with an appropriate facial wrinkle or contour concern who accepts gradual change and can attend follow-up. Men and women can be assessed. There is no required starting age of 25 or 30, and thin skin needs particular caution rather than being an automatic reason to choose Sculptra.

  • Allergies and scarring: the U.S. label excludes people with allergy to its components, a history of anaphylaxis or multiple severe allergies, or a history of or susceptibility to keloids or raised hypertrophic scars. Lidocaine allergy matters if lidocaine is added.
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding or under 18: safety and effectiveness have not been established in these groups. Discuss postponing elective treatment.
  • Active inflammation or infection: postpone injections into an area with inflamed acne, a rash, hives, wounds or infection until it has been assessed and treated, and the problem has resolved or is controlled.

Tell the doctor about your medical conditions, immune-suppressing treatment, bleeding problems, allergies, medicines, supplements and previous facial procedures. If you know them, tell the doctor the product names, dates and treatment areas. Do not stop prescribed aspirin, anticoagulants or other medicines yourself.

When will results appear, and how long can they last?

Changes develop over several weeks and may continue over the treatment course. Early fullness partly reflects injected fluid and swelling, which can settle before the gradual improvement becomes apparent. A fixed deadline for the final result is not reliable for everyone.

In the U.S. cheek-wrinkle study, treatment involved up to four sessions at roughly four-week intervals, with follow-up extending to 24 months from the first treatment. Improvement persisted in some participants without further treatment during the extension. This does not mean one vial or one session gives everyone two years of benefit.

The number of vials, visits and any later maintenance should follow assessment, not an age-based formula or an automatic annual top-up. Visible benefit and complete breakdown of the material are different; the U.S. label says human resorption kinetics have not been determined.

If the change is less than expected, review the original goal, time since treatment and comparable before-and-after photographs with the doctor. Do not assume you need more product, or that being over 50 or missing a massage explains the result.

How much does Sculptra cost at Smooth Clinic?

The current Smooth Clinic price page, checked on 17 October 2026, lists these total prices by number of vials:

Number of vialsTotal price
1 vialTHB 29,900
2 vialsTHB 55,800
3 vialsTHB 75,000

Prices and conditions may change.

Before booking, confirm the current price, quantity and total treatment cost, including whether consultation, doctor and service fees, numbing, aftercare and follow-up are included. A package size does not determine how much treatment you need.

What happens at the appointment?

  1. Assessment: discuss your concern, expected change, alternatives, risks and whether treatment is appropriate.
  2. Product and preparation checks: confirm the product and packaging, clean the skin and agree on pain relief. Sculptra is supplied as a powder for professional preparation; lidocaine is not already present in every vial.
  3. Treatment and follow-up: the doctor performs the injections and provides aftercare instructions, a review plan and an urgent contact route.

Injections can hurt or feel tight despite numbing. Allow time for consultation and possible swelling or bruising; this is not a guarantee of no downtime.

How should you care for the area afterwards?

  • Ask the doctor to demonstrate the massage technique. U.S. patient instructions describe five minutes, five times a day for five days, following the treating professional’s advice. Massage does not guarantee prevention of nodules; do not press hard to try to remove a lump.
  • Follow advice on a cloth-wrapped cold pack, skincare and makeup. Avoid direct ice contact with the skin.
  • Ask when to restart strenuous exercise. Avoid strong sun, UV exposure and extreme temperatures until initial swelling and redness have resolved.
  • Attend the review and contact the clinic sooner if symptoms worsen. Do not wait for a set number of days when something seems wrong.

What are the risks and urgent warning signs?

Pain, tenderness, swelling, redness, itching and bruising can occur. Infection, inflammatory reactions and persistent bumps or nodules are also possible, including delayed problems appearing weeks or months later. Not every lump improves with massage.

Accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause tissue damage, skin death, loss of vision or stroke. These complications are uncommon but can be permanent, even with a genuine product and an experienced practitioner.

  • Unusual or severe pain, pale skin, a dusky or mottled colour: seek immediate medical assessment. If the treating doctor cannot assess you immediately, go to an emergency department.
  • Any vision change, facial drooping, weakness or difficulty speaking: seek emergency hospital care immediately and explain that you have had an injectable treatment. A clinic visit must not delay transfer.
  • Breathing difficulty, tongue or throat swelling, faintness or collapse: get emergency help immediately for a possible severe allergic reaction.
  • Increasing redness, warmth, pain, fever, discharge or a new lump: contact the doctor promptly for assessment rather than waiting one or two months.

Can Sculptra be combined with other treatments?

Sometimes, but previous filler or a planned laser, peel, ultrasound or radiofrequency treatment needs individual review. Safety has not been systematically evaluated for every combination. Procedures that trigger a skin response can cause inflammation at an implant site, especially before the skin has healed.

Tell the doctor exactly what you have had and what you are considering. There is no single two-to-four-week gap that makes every combination suitable, and Sculptra should not be directly mixed with other fillers.

What should you check before booking in Thailand?

  • Choose a licensed clinic and doctor experienced with the exact product and proposed treatment area.
  • Ask to see intact packaging, the product name, Thai labeling and authorization details, importer, lot number and expiry date. A sticker or a low price alone does not prove authenticity.
  • Ask how complications are managed and how to arrange urgent assessment. Under the U.S. label, each vial is for one patient and one treatment session; it must not be shared or saved after use.
  • Request an explanation you understand, a written cost breakdown and a follow-up plan that fits your availability in Thailand.

Contact Smooth Clinic to ask about an assessment and current treatment details. Confirm suitability, product availability, pricing and any language support you need before booking.
