What is Juvederm filler?
Juvederm is a family of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. Depending on the exact product, treatment can soften selected facial folds, replace some lost volume or change contours. The results are temporary, and the right model depends on your anatomy and treatment goal.
Cross-linking joins HA chains to make the gel more resistant to breakdown. Injectable filler is different from HA in a moisturiser; our guide to hyaluronic acid explains the distinction. Having HA naturally in your body does not make an injection risk-free.
How do Juvederm models differ?
The Thai manufacturer website describes the following uses. These summaries help explain the names; the doctor must check the exact product’s Thai label and authorised indication before treatment.
- Voluma with Lidocaine: restoring facial volume.
- Volbella with Lidocaine: lip enhancement and selected under-eye lines.
- Volux: adding shape and volume around the chin and jawline.
- Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC: facial lines and lip enhancement, with Ultra Plus XC described for deeper lines.
Product names and indications differ between countries. Do not assume that a U.S. “XC” label applies to a similarly named product in Thailand, or that approval of one model covers the whole brand. Confirm the full name on the package, including any lidocaine formulation.
Under-eye darkness needs particular care: pigment, eye bags and fluid retention are different from a hollow. Read about what under-eye filler can and cannot treat. A soft gel does not guarantee freedom from swelling or lumps.
Is Juvederm better than Restylane?
Neither brand is best for everyone. Both include several products with different properties and uses. A whole brand cannot reliably be described as softer, firmer, more natural-looking or longer-lasting than another.
Compare models intended for the same concern, alongside their evidence, risks and suitability for your tissues. Our comparison of filler brands and models explains what matters beyond the brand name. Filler adds volume; it does not remove excess fat or replace surgery for substantial loose skin.
How much does Juvederm filler cost?
Smooth Clinic previously listed these prices for Juvederm Voluma / Volbella / Volux:
- 1 CC: 16,990 baht
- 4 CC: 59,990 baht
Confirm the current price, model availability and package conditions with the clinic before booking. Ask whether different models can be combined in the package and whether assessment, follow-up, any touch-up and applicable taxes are included.
One cc equals one mL. A package quantity is not a recommended dose or an amount everyone needs. The total should follow an individual assessment and agreed treatment plan.
When will you see results, and how long do they last?
Added volume may be visible immediately, but early swelling can distort the result. Bruising and swelling often improve over days to weeks. Attend the agreed review before deciding whether more filler is needed; a final result within 7–14 days cannot be promised.
Duration is specific to the product and treatment area. For example, Australian manufacturer instructions report:
- Volbella with Lidocaine: improvement in lip fullness for up to one year.
- Voluma with Lidocaine: correction of cheek or midface volume loss for up to 24 months.
The supporting clinical programmes allowed an initial treatment followed by a touch-up when needed. These are study outcomes, not a guarantee after one session, proof of Thai approval or the time when all filler disappears.
Results vary. Reassess your appearance, symptoms and any remaining filler before repeat treatment rather than following an automatic top-up calendar.
Who should postpone treatment or take extra care?
- Active infection or inflammation: postpone injection into an area with infected skin, active acne, herpes, a wound or ongoing inflammation until it has been treated and reassessed.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding: defer elective cosmetic filler and discuss the product’s restrictions with your doctor.
- Allergies: disclose reactions to HA, bacterial proteins, lidocaine or other ingredients, and any history of severe allergy. A known allergy to a component rules out a product containing it.
- Medical conditions or previous treatment: bleeding problems, immune conditions, immunosuppressive treatment, scarring problems, existing filler or implants need individual assessment.
The doctor should check all contraindications and the age criteria for the exact model. Reaching a particular age does not mean you need filler or that every product is suitable.
How should you prepare, and does the injection hurt?
Tell the doctor about your medical history, medicines, supplements, allergies and previous facial procedures. Medicines such as aspirin, anticoagulants and some anti-inflammatory drugs can increase bleeding or bruising. Do not stop prescribed medicines yourself; any change needs advice from the prescribing clinician.
The appointment should include assessment, discussion of realistic results and risks, product selection, skin preparation and aftercare planning. Lidocaine in the filler or additional numbing may reduce discomfort, but pressure, stinging or pain can still occur. Allow recovery time before an important event.
If you are also considering Botox, laser, thread lifting or an energy-based treatment, ask the doctor to plan the sequence. There is no single waiting interval for every combination. Manufacturer instructions restrict simultaneous use with laser, deep chemical peeling or dermabrasion.
What aftercare is recommended?
Follow the instructions for your product and treatment area. General habits cannot guarantee a longer-lasting result.
- Do not press, rub or massage the area yourself unless the treating doctor specifically advises it.
- The Thai manufacturer’s guidance advises no makeup for 12 hours and avoiding prolonged sun or UV exposure and saunas for two weeks. Ask how this applies to your treatment, especially if the skin remains irritated.
- Check when to resume strenuous exercise, alcohol and other skin treatments. Do not assume that everyone is ready at the same time.
- Keep the follow-up appointment and the clinic’s urgent contact details. Seek assessment for worsening symptoms rather than treating them as normal settling.
What side effects need medical attention?
Swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness and itching can occur. Persistent lumps, infection, allergic reactions and delayed inflammation are also possible. Increasing redness, warmth, pain, fever, discharge or persistent swelling needs prompt medical assessment.
Accidental injection into a blood vessel can damage tissue or cause blindness or stroke. These uncommon complications can be permanent, even with a genuine product.
- Unusual or severe pain, or pale, grey, blue or mottled skin: seek immediate medical assessment. If the treating doctor cannot assess you immediately, go to an emergency department.
- Blurred or double vision, loss of sight, facial drooping, weakness or difficulty speaking: seek emergency hospital care immediately and explain that you have had filler.
- Breathing difficulty, tongue or throat swelling, faintness or collapse: get emergency help immediately.
Tell the clinic, but do not wait for a reply or a routine appointment before seeking emergency care. Prompt treatment matters; recovery cannot be guaranteed.
Can Juvederm filler be dissolved?
A doctor may use hyaluronidase to break down HA filler in selected situations. The response varies, further treatment may be needed, and dissolving has its own risks. It cannot guarantee an exact return to your previous appearance or reverse every complication, including loss of vision.
A lump needs assessment before deciding to dissolve it. Aftercare and the timing of any new filler depend on the cause and recovery. See the guide to dissolving HA filler and its limitations rather than relying on a fixed reinjection interval.
How can you check the product and clinic in Thailand?
Ask to see the full product name, Thai label, importer, relevant Thai FDA authorisation details, lot number and expiry date. Check the exact product’s current record and intended use, and ask to see sealed packaging opened for your treatment. A sticker, box colour or QR code alone does not prove authenticity.
Choose a licensed clinic and doctor, and ask about their experience and emergency referral arrangements. A low price alone does not prove a product is fake, and a high price does not guarantee safety.
Before arranging treatment with Smooth Clinic, confirm the proposed model, total cost and follow-up arrangements. Ask for an explanation of the procedure, alternatives and risks that you understand before deciding.
